Update: In 2019, Backcountry Edge rebranded as Enwild, as a testament to their shared outdoor experiences.

Let’s get right to it: Enwild should be bookmarked in every outdoor enthusiast’s web browser.

Not only do they have an expansive product selection from 137 popular outdoor gear brands, they’ll price-match competing retailers to guarantee you never overpay. Their expert squad of Gear Specialists have over 2,500 product review videos up on the site, and they’ve available by phone or email to help you find the right gear for your next adventure.

Enwild also backs their products with a one-year No-Matter-What return policy — blowing other retailers out of the water — so you can rest assured that you’re making a quality long-term purchase every time.

About Enwild

Enwild is a small family-owned retailer that specializes in backpacking, camping, trail running, outdoor apparel, and footwear. Tim King founded the company in 2004. Their office and warehouse are located in Manheim, a small town in Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna Valley.

The company’s mantra is “awesome gear, amazing service,” and the reviews clearly indicate that Enwild takes this to heart. They appreciate each and every customer, and they show their appreciation by working hard to earn people’s trust and support.

The defining feature for Enwild is the depth of their expert advice. Their Gear Specialists test most of their products in the field, and they film in-depth product reviews to give you an inside look that’s 100 times more useful than pictures from the manufacturer.

If you call or email the Gear Specialists, you’ll get reliable recommendations based on first-hand experience. In addition to the 2,500+ product review videos, you’ll also find helpful videos on gear usage and care, how-to videos, and tech talk.

Enwild partners carries more than 137 brands to offer a broad range of high-quality outdoor gear. They have all of the big names you’d expect — Camelbak, Marmot, Patagonia, The North Face — and a wide variety of small and mid-size outfitters that you won’t find in big-box stores. They even spotlight some of the brands that they work with from time to time with Brand Stories videos.

Enwild offers an excellent product selection with a deep catalog. Even better, almost every product on their website features an expert video review, verified reviews from Inside Edge rewards members, or in many cases, both. The user reviews from verified purchases are helpful, but we’re particularly impressed with the video reviews from the company’s Gear Specialists.

Have a question about a product? Pick up the phone or send an email to speak with a Gear Specialist for a 1-on-1 consultation. They’ll answer your questions, determine your needs, and help you pick the perfect product. These guys are dedicated and known to go above and beyond, so don’t be surprised if they follow up with you to see how you like your purchase after it arrives in the mail.

Enwild Customer Reviews

When you’re sizing up a new retailer, it’s always a good idea to check out the buzz online. In this case, the reviews for Enwild are impressive and enthusiastic. Where other retailers are lucky to clear 3 stars, Enwild averages over 4.5 stars on every review platform that we checked.

Here’s a sample of what customers are saying about Enwild:

“Purchased a Marmot rain jacket, which they price matched, the order was processed in 2 hours, and I received the jacket 2 business days later.”

Chris W., Yelp

“Backcountry Edge is always my first choice when purchasing new gear. The quality of gear and customer service they provide is the best in the business.” – Kirk W.

“Superb store. Best prices. Outstanding service. Super-fast shipping, which saved my ass more than once. Their videos are also excellent.” – Bernard E.

“I requested a cancellation of the order and they responded within ten minutes. They were courteous, granted the request to cancel without any fees, and offered to help if I had any questions or needs. I recommend working with them.” – Connor P.

After combing through the reviews, we only came across a handful of dissatisfied customers. Most concerned customers unhappy with the turnaround time for returns and exchanges.

However, given the overwhelming number of happy customers who report a pleasant, fair, and timely experience with Customer Service, we feel confident that these few hiccups are rare exceptions to an otherwise spotless customer service record.

As a seller on Amazon, they have a nearly impeccable 99% positive feedback score.

Important Policies

When it comes to company policies, most are in existence to serve the company’s best interests. In this case, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Enwild’s returns, exchanges, shipping, and price match policies offer excellent terms for the customer. They’re clear, fair, and significantly better than what you’ll see on other outdoor supplier websites.

No-Matter-What Returns

Enwild has an unbelievably generous return policy. Under their No-Matter-What policy, they’ll return or exchange any product within one year of purchase, regardless of the product’s condition. Return shipping is free, and you can easily print a return shipping label directly from their website. Enwild deducts $4.99 from your return if you request a refund, but there’s no deduction for exchanges or store credit.

Enwild’s No-Matter-What return policy applies to gifts, too. They don’t refund gifted products, but they’ll process an exchange or return for store credit within one year of the original purchase.

Enwild offers free standard shipping on all product orders over $50 that ship to a street address in the continental United States. This does not include PO boxes, orders under $50 after discounts, or shipments to Hawaii and Alaska. Other shipping methods are available at checkout, including express shipping.

The company’s warehouse has a solid reputation for quickly fulfilling orders. Purchases made before 2pm EST usually ship the same business day. Orders placed on weekends, holidays, or weekdays after 2pm EST ship the next business day. All orders are sent from the company’s warehouse in Manheim, Pennsylvania, and should arrive within 1-5 business days.

Price Match Guarantee

Enwild will match the price of an identical, in-stock product from a manufacturer’s authorized retailer. The product in question must be the same model, style, color, and size, and cannot be used, refurbished, or open-box. The offer doesn’t apply to ebay, auction sites, liquidation sales, clearance items, BOGO deals, or general sales (e.g. 50% off backpacking tents). You cannot combine a price match deal with another offer or coupon, but you can use your Inside Edge points at checkout.

To request a price match, you’ll need to email Customer Support with a product description, the delivered price (including the competitor’s shipping and handling charges), and either a link to product page or a copy of the competitor’s ad. Customer Support cannot approve a price match after your order has shipped, so it’s best to request a price match before placing your order with Enwild.

Enwild Promotions

For the best deals and exclusive promotions, join the Inside Edge rewards program. If you’re reluctant to share your email address for access to the club, that’s okay — you can still save some green with sales and discounts that come and go all the time.

They also offer a number of giveaways and contests throughout the year, so follow them on Instagram to catch promos you’d otherwise miss.

Inside Edge Rewards Program

Enwild offers a refreshingly creative rewards program. When you sign up for Inside Edge, you’ll get a coupon for 20% off a full-priced item. Each month, you’ll receive an invitation to Inside Edge Deal Days with exclusive members-only discounts and promotions.

Finally, you’ll get 5% back in rewards points for every product that you purchase and review on the company’s website — even if your review isn’t a shining, 5-star recommendation. This fosters a uniquely engaged community with plenty of helpful product reviews, and it puts valuable rewards dollars in your Inside Edge account that can be used towards any future purchase.

Our Recommendation

Enwild should be one of your first stops for outdoor gear. The website is packed with expert tips and helpful product reviews, their customer service is on-par with a 5-star hotel, and the No-Matter-What return policy essentially lets you try out gear for a year before you have to commit to it.

They carry a lot of our recommended gear — from hiking backpacks under $100 to our favorite 3-person tents, so their inventory is comparable to many larger e-tailers. Join their Inside Edge rewards program and watch the rewards dollars pile up with 5% back in points for every product you review.
