“Life is good in New Braunfels” — boasts the town saying, so why not come see for yourself?

Nestled in the Hill Country, New Braunfels may be a small city but it’s got some big attractions. From the expansive Schlitterbahn Waterpark to the quaint, historic area of Gruene, there’s more to see and do here than you might think for a little spot sandwiched between the two powerhouses that are San Antonio and Austin.

Really, the best thing about New Braunfels is how the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers run right through it, offering endless hours of tubing, paddling, and fishing amid their winding curves.

When you imagine yourself spending the day out by the water, what’s a more fitting place to come back to than a cozy cabin or charming cottage? From authentic log homes to chic retreats, these stays encourage you to take things slow, let your worries wash away, and enjoy that good New Braunfels livin’.

Why you should stay: This homey log cabin is full of Texas pride — and is within easy driving distance to an action sports heaven.

  • Sleeps: 6
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $311/night

There are cabins, and then there are log cabins — and that distinction can make all the difference to some travelers. The Log Haus brings all the warmth of the latter with its rustic, totally wood interior plus the addition of Texas and cowboy-themed decor throughout. But by no means does this country charm mean you’ll be roughing it. Just look at the kitchen, which is spacious, modern, and fully outfitted so you can gather around for delicious meals with your friends and family.

Outdoors, you’ve got a porch swing for relaxing, a gas grill for barbecuing, and a gazebo for chatting late into the night. When you’re looking to get out of the house, Texas Ski Ranch is just across the way with its wake park and paintball.

Step outside and you can play a round of horseshoe or enjoy some downtime by the firepit. And while it may not be directly outside your door, Gruene Historic District is super close so you can continue to embrace those quaint small-town vibes.

Why you should stay: You’re right next to the river at one of these colorful, restored cabins.

  • Sleeps: 4
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $200/night

If you’re in New Braunfels for the river, then it doesn’t get much closer than a stay at Opie’s Cabins. Just have a look from your deck and you’ll see the Comal River right there.

Inside the cabin, there’s a cute farmhouse vibe going on, but don’t worry, the only wild animals here are the ones featured in the decor—and maybe whatever friends you decide to bring along… Speaking of friends, since the cabins (which are restored, century-old cabins by the way) are all right next to each other, you can book multiple places if you’re rolling deep during your New Braunfels trip.

In the neighborhood, you’ll find Texas Tubes, 444 Tubing Company, and the Tube Chute, so you won’t be short of options when you’re ready to have some fun on the water.

Why you should stay: Elevate your New Braunfels getaway — literally — at one of these riverside treehouses.

  • Sleeps: 8
  • Minimum stay: 1 night
  • Rates from: $134/night

Prefer a more quiet piece of paradise? Found outside of the city proper, River Road Treehouses is by a stretch of the Guadalupe River not too far from Canyon Lake. This property has six different rentals to choose from, each with its own special something.

While there is one ground-bound lodge available, chances are you’re more interested in the actual treehouse options. For example, there’s the Mourning Dove Haus and the Whippoorwill Haus, which are great for groups since they’re connected by a shared deck. Then there’s the Birdseye Perch, which offers wonderful views of the greenery outside thanks to the many massive windows. Whatever one you decide is your perfect fit, you can expect a full kitchen, full bath, high-speed WiFi, and Smart TVs — plus they’re all temperature controlled.

Last but not least, look at that price. If you fill up the place to capacity, it’s hard to complain about the low per-person cost you can get here.

  • Sleeps: 6
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $300/night

One of the best things about this stay is its large yard, which includes a little seating area around a fire pit and plenty of trees.

Another big plus to this cabin is its location. If you’re here on a romantic getaway, you and your partner might enjoy a sunny stroll through the landscaped gardens. The gazebo is also a sweet spot for a romantic date night. If you don’t mind cutting into your alone time, the property puts on a social hour in the afternoons and live music in the evenings almost every day of the week.

This cabin is actually one of a few rentals on the property, so if you’re coming to New Braunfels in a group bigger than two, check out what else can be booked next door.
