Why you should stay: A luxurious but remote cabin in a quieter region of the Finger Lakes.

  • Location: Lodi
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Minimum Stay: 3 nights
  • Rates from: $700/night

Less popular than its bigger siblings, Skaneateles Lake is a bit quieter — that’s not to say it’s devoid of activity! The mile and a half road to the cabin is rather rough, and you may want high clearance and 4-wheel drive to get to the cabin.

However, once there, you’ll see why this spot is so magical. This modern log cabin sits on a large plot of land with 200 feet of private lakefront. You have easy access to the water and can enjoy the shade and lake breeze of one of the more quiet lakes in the region.

Unwind in the evening in the hot tub outside, or enjoy a movie in the home theater. If it happens to get chilly at night, cozy up by the fire with a glass of wine and a good book. During your stay, it’s worth checking out the Village of Skaneateles — with unique shops, boutiques, and restaurants. There are several galleries and antique shops that are well-worth poking your head in.

Keuka Lake is one of the more popular lakes in the region. It’s small, which cuts down on boat traffic, but it is still easier to access than most of the other smaller lakes. Why you should stay: A lakefront property with stunning views.

  • Location: Dundee
  • Sleeps: 10
  • Minimum Stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $520/night

Just steps from the water’s edge, this cabin is the perfect getaway. With 150 feet of private lakeshore, a dock, and a small pebble beach, this cabin will be hard to leave. The driveway down to the cabin is quite steep, and navigating a boat trailer may be difficult, so small boats like kayaks or canoes may be preferred. The huge space has a wonderful kitchen for cooking meals, and there is a grill outside, perfect for an evening barbecue.

With an open yard, the sunrise views and night-time star-gazing are unparalleled. A large hot tub is a relaxing place to soak after a swim in the lake and to unwind after a long day exploring the region. If you’ve picked up a few bottles of wine from the local vineyards, enjoy them on the back deck as the sun sets, reflecting on the opposite shore.
