Prescott’s days as a booming mining town and capital of the Arizona territory may be over, but in its place you’ll find a laidback hangout that sticks to its historical roots.

When True West Magazine named Prescott their top Western town of 2021, it came as no surprise to Arizonans who’ve long enjoyed the town’s western history.

Home to the Sharlot Hall Museum that documents early pioneering families and Whiskey Row saloons once frequented by the likes of Wyatt Earp, Virgil Earp and Doc Holliday, Prescott long ago cemented its reputation as an iconic western town.

Today, a crop of new and newly renovated airbnbs in Prescott offer the best vacation digs in and around the area. From cozy cottages to designer cabins just outside of town, here’s a look at eight of the best airbnbs in Prescott for every budget and type of traveler.

Why it made the list: the best romantic stay for couples.

  • Sleeps: 3
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $87/night

In a quiet neighborhood just west of downtown Prescott you’ll find The Cactus Cottage, a gorgeously decorated studio within walking distance of Whiskey Row and Courthouse Square. It’s the ideal Prescott airbnb: close to the action, but removed from the congestion that often comes with holiday weekends and events.

“This is quite possibly the best Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in. The place was impeccably clean, stylish, comfortable and welcoming.”

Julia, Los Angeles, CA

The studio’s thoughtful decor is evident in every room, from the kitchen’s Scandinavian-style wood shelving to the bedroom’s minimalist layout. Out front, a covered patio and hanging chair make excellent use of a small space – a running theme in The Cactus Cottage.

2. Mt. Vernon Home

Why it made the list: the best vintage airbnb on Mt. Vernon.

  • Sleeps: 6
  • Minimum stay: 4 nights
  • Rates from: $196/night

The stretch of historic 1890’s-era residences along Mt. Vernon Avenue is one of Prescott’s most beautiful places to stroll, but staying in one of the craftsman homes brings a new appreciation for the street’s character.

This renovated Mt. Vernon home has all the right historic touches balanced with updated conveniences that appeal to today’s travelers. The contemporary farmhouse vibe starts before you enter the home: the front gate opens to a grassy area and rocking chairs on the front porch (where one can only assume copious amounts of lemonade are enjoyed.)

An open kitchen layout and comfortable rooms make the home more inviting than expected, and outside, you can dine under the gazebo, nap in a hammock, or huddle around the fire pit on cold Prescott nights. It’s a great price for an airbnb in Prescott that sleeps half a dozen.

Why it made the list: the best cabin on a budget/

  • Sleeps: 7
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $200/night

You don’t have to drive too far out to enjoy this affordable cabin rental – Acre’s Away is a deceivingly easy three-mile drive to downtown. It’s on a wooded acre that makes this A-frame feel more secluded than it is, and some guests report daily deer sightings.

“One of the best decorated and equipped homes we have been in, and Lexi was very co-operative and helpful. We will be back.”

Leighton, Phoenix, AZ

The cabin’s well-decorated – signs around the home pay homage to nearby Whiskey Row – and big on entertainment, with foosball, board games, and a fire pit out back. You’d be hard-pressed to find a cabin with more amenities at this price point so close to town.

Why it made the list: the best views in the Bradshaws.

  • Sleeps: 4
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $163/night

The Bradshaw Mountains south of Prescott offer a cooler alternative to staying in town (both literally and figuratively, sometimes), though this renovated home is still only a few miles from the popular summer hangout of Lynx Lake. The home’s elevation at 6,500 feet offers sweeping views of the surrounding forest, and when you’re ready to explore on the ground, there’s no shortage of hiking in the area.

Serene patio space with seating to take in the views complements an expertly designed interior (seriously – it was on CNBC’s “Cash Pad.”) The Majestic Mountain Retreat is located in the small town of Walker, named after the mountain man who found gold in the area back in the 1860s.

Why it made the list: the best cabin airbnb in Prescott for families.

  • Sleeps: 8
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights
  • Rates from: $369/night

After traveling with three kids for years, Airbnb hosts Zach and Abby are no strangers to seeking kid-friendly accommodations wherever they go. So it makes sense that they’d design their own Airbnb property, C7K, to be incredibly hospitable to families looking for a practical retreat southeast of Prescott.

“I can hands down say this was one of the best experiences my family has had on Airbnb. All of the details of the home (perfect for families), the tips and tricks, and the location wrapped up to be one memorable week.”

Russ, Scottsdale, AZ

The designer cabin’s focus on family includes bunk beds in the open-air loft, games and toys stashed around the home, and wide common areas perfect for letting kids roam free. C7K’s private location in the Bradshaw mountains also makes it a crowd favorite for secluded cabins in Arizona, though it’s still an easy drive to downtown Prescott for food, shopping and historic sightseeing.

Why it made the list: the best views of Prescott.

  • Sleeps: 10
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights
  • Rates from: $161/night

The Yavapai Hills master-planned community was built on land once belonging to the Bar Circle A Ranch, and the views here make it clear why it was considered valuable grazing land. This home in the subdivision sits on a hilltop just east of Prescott and offer stellar views of the area that are different (and closer) than the forested views you’ll get south of town. It’s a great price for an airbnb in Prescott considering how many guests can stay here.

The home’s Southwestern decor is about what you’d expect from the classic adobe exterior: a horseshoe hangs tacked above the front door and you’ll pass beneath a set of massive steer horns while heading out to the large deck. If you’re a western aficionado in town to visit Prescott’s antique market, you’ll dig the views inside and out. And consider swinging by the antique market if you’re in town on those dates regardless – it’s an awesome place to browse, even if you don’t plan to buy.

Why it made the list: the best for farmhouse vibes.

  • Sleeps: 5
  • Minimum stay: 1 night
  • Rates from: $89/night

Kirk’s Kasita is located on a quiet, three-acre property in Williamson Valley, just north of Prescott. Though it’s a guesthouse, the 750-square-foot studio’s fenced backyard and long front porch offer plenty of privacy. The comfortable living quarters, decked out in a contemporary farmhouse style, aren’t far from downtown or the Granite Dells lakes to the east.

“Clean, charming, modern shabby chic. Most comfortable bed ever. When you walk in, you feel like you’re home.”

Melissa, Thousand Oaks, CA

For nearby hiking, hit the Prescott Circle Trail from Katahn Trailhead. It’s a 56-mile network of paths around the Prescott area, and from Katahn, you can head west toward Granite Basin or east toward Heritage Park. This home has a really unique vibe, so it’s just a bonus that it’s one of the most affordable airbnbs in Prescott.

8. Cabin on Two Wooded Acres

Why it made the list: the best luxury cabin stay near Prescott.

  • Sleeps: 12
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • Rates from: $539/night

This beautiful cabin east of Thumb Butte in Prescott National Forest offers seclusion and a noticeable upgrade over many of the older cabins you’ll find for rent around Prescott. The old-school cabin’s vibe is completed with a country-style kitchen and white-paneled walls, but modern fixtures and bedroom decor keep the place from feeling outdated. Only 10 adults are allowed, but it can accomodate an extra two children in bunks.

Upstairs, an open loft leads to the kids’ room with beds and bean bag chairs, and the lower level’s game room offers an entertainment haven to kids and adults alike. But the best part of this cabin might very well be the enclosed deck – the perfect place to take in forest views in any season.
